In the celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi, make your home happy with this easy Modak Recipe. Modak is made up of rice flour with a mixture of jaggery and grated coconut. There are various varieties of modak but the popular one is Ukadiche (Sweet modak) which is from the Maharashtrian cuisine.
INGREDIENTS :
- 1 Cup Rice Flour
- 1 Cup grated Coconut
- 1 Cup Ghee
- ¾ Cup Jaggery
- 1 Tablespoon Poppy seed
- Pinch of salt
- 1 Teaspoon cardamom powder
- Dry Fruits (According to your taste)
HOW TO MAKE MODAK :
JAGGERY AND COCONUT FILLING –
STEP 1: Heat the pan with ghee, Add Poppy seeds and stir them for 1-2 min on low flame
STEP 2: Add chopped jaggery, let it melt completely then add grated coconut. Stir them for 2-3 minutes.
STEP 3: Add chopped Dryfruits (according to your taste) like cashew, almonds, and Raisins.
STEP 4: Add cardamom powder. Mix them well, Turn the Gas off and keep this filling aside to cool it completely.
RICE FLOUR DOUGH –
STEP 5: Add 1 cup of water to any utensil, add salt and ghee, and cover the lid. Let it boil for 2-3 minutes
STEP 6: Add Rice flour and stir them until the rice flour is mixed with water properly. Switch off the gas and cover the utensil with a lid for 5-6 minutes.
STEP 7: Now, take the dough on a plate and begin to knead it. You can grease your hand with ghee and knead it until it becomes soft (without any lumps).
STEP 8: Take your Modak Mould and grease it with a bit of ghee. Make a small ball from your dough and put it inside. It’ll make the shape of Modak.
STEP 9: Put coconut jaggery filled inside and cover the modak from the bottom with the excess dough that comes out.
STEP 10: Make all the Modak this way and grease it with ghee
STEAM THE MODAK –
STEP 11: Now take any utensil which is suitable for steam and add 2-3 cups of water. Cover the lid and let it boil on high flame
STEP 12: Place your modak inside it and cover the lid. Let it steam for 10-15 minutes
STEP 13: Your Modak is ready. Offer it to Lord Ganesh and to your loved ones!!!
