Rava Uttapam is a popular South Indian breakfast dish made from semolina (rava) batter. It’s a thick, savory pancake typically topped with various vegetables such as tomatoes, onions, green chilies, and cilantro. To make the batter, mix rava with yogurt and water, then season it with spices and let it rest briefly before cooking. Cook the Rava Uttapam on a grill until it turns golden and crispy on the edges while remaining soft and fluffy inside. Serve it with chutneys and sambar for a flavorful and nutritious start to the day.

Ingredients:

  • Half-cup rava,
  •  3-4 tbsp yogurt,
  • 2  onions,
  • 2-3 carrots,
  • 2-3  green chilies,
  • 2 tomatoes,
  • salt as needed, oil, water as required

Ingredients:

Add half a cup of rava to a mixing bowl, add half a cup of water, mix it well, and set this aside for 10 minutes.

Chopped vegetables like onions, green chilies, tomatoes, bell pepper, grated carrot, and coriander leaves, add 2 tbsp yogurt, salt as required, and 3 tbsp more water, the batter should be neither thin nor too thick, but must be spreading consistency, set this aside.

First, grease your tawa well with a few drops of oil and rub it with a kitchen tissue. Next, when the pan turns hot, pour half of the prepared batter and spread it gently, but only a little. Then, immediately add the cut veggies and press them down with a wooden spatula; otherwise, the veggies will come off the uttapam when you flip it. After that, pour oil or ghee on medium heat. After a while, you will see the edges leaving the pan. At this point, gently lift it with a spatula and flip it. Continue cooking on both sides until fully done. Finally, serve these instant rava uttapam with chutney.
