Dhokla-

Dhokla is a savory snack from India, particularly popular in the state of Gujarat. Made primarily from fermented batter derived from rice and chickpea flour, it has a fluffy texture and a slightly tangy taste. Typically steamed, dhokla is seasoned with mustard seeds, and curry leaves, and sometimes garnished with grated coconut and coriander. Often served as a snack or part of a meal, it’s loved for its lightness, versatility, and distinctive flavor profile.

Dhokla Recipe:

Here’s a basic recipe for Dhokla-

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 Cup of Gram flour
  • ½ cup of fresh curd
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Coriander
  • Curry leaves
  • 5 gm of Eno

     Let’s Make Dhokla-

  • Add flour into any bowl, and add sugar, salt, and turmeric powder. Mix them well.
  • Add water and mix until it becomes a smooth batter and leave it for 10 minutes.
  • Grease the steaming tin with oil. Add Eno into the batter.
  • Take a big and deep vessel like ‘karahi’ and add some water to it. Place a cake stand or any stand where you can place the tin. Let the water boil.
  • Pour the dhokla batter into the tin, place it in a vessel, and cover the lid. Let it cook for 20-25 minutes on medium flame.
  • Take out the tin when it’s cooked and keep it aside to cool.
  • In a pan, add green chili, mustard seeds, and curry leaves, Roast them for 1-2 minutes. Add ½ cup of water, ½ teaspoon of salt, and sugar. Mix them with some coriander chopped leaves. You can add lemon to this syrup.
  • Place the dhokla on any plate and cut it into small pieces. Pour this syrup into your Dhokla
  • Your Yummy dhokla is ready to serve. You can serve it with tomato sauce/green chutney.
